Stvorenie zasyčalo a ustúpilo o krok dozadu.
The Boy and His Faithful Dog
5 min.
In a small village at the foot of tall mountains lived a boy named Jacob. He was neither rich nor poor, but he possessed something more precious than gold – a faithful dog named Luna. Luna was no ordinary dog. Her fur was as white as freshly fallen snow, and her eyes were as blue as a summer sky. Jacob had found her years ago during a winter storm when she was just a tiny puppy, shivering in the snowdrifts.
Jacob’s parents worked from dawn till dusk in the fields and forest, so the boy spent most of his time alone with Luna. Together, they would wander the surrounding hills, discover secret paths, and listen to stories whispered by the wind in the treetops. Luna was more than just a dog to Jacob – she was his best friend, sister, and protector.
One autumn morning, when fog rolled between the trees like gray veils, Jacob and Luna ventured deeper into the forest than ever before. Jacob was gathering mushrooms in his basket while Luna bounded around, occasionally hearing an interesting sound and running off to investigate, but never straying too far from her young master.
As they delved deeper into the forest, the trees around them grew increasingly massive and darker. The moss on their trunks grew thicker, and the air became heavier. Jacob noticed that the birds had stopped singing, and the forest had fallen silent. Only Luna growled uneasily, pressing herself against Jacob’s legs.
„What’s wrong, Luna?“ Jacob asked, but then he heard a faint crying in the distance. It sounded like a child’s cry, but there was something strange, unnatural about it. Luna began barking and tried to pull Jacob away, but the boy was too curious. Despite Luna’s warning, he headed toward the source of the crying.
The closer they got to the sound, the more agitated Luna became. Jacob kept walking until they reached a small clearing. In the middle stood a little girl in a white dress, turned away from them and sobbing.
„Why are you crying?“ Jacob asked and took a step forward. But Luna grabbed his sleeve with her teeth and pulled him back. The little girl turned slowly, and Jacob’s breath caught in his throat. Instead of a face, there was only dark emptiness from which green sparks flew.
„Finally, someone has come,“ the creature whispered in a voice that sounded like creaking doors. „I’ve been alone for so long… Come closer, boy, I’ll show you something amazing.“
Luna growled fiercely and positioned herself between Jacob and the being. Her blue eyes glowed with supernatural light, and her fur stood on end. The creature hissed and stepped back.
„Cursed dog! She sees too much!“ the creature snarled, and its form began to change. The white dress dissolved like smoke, and in its place stood a tall, dark figure with claws instead of hands.
But Luna showed no fear. She growled even louder, and her fur began to emit a bright, silver light. Jacob had never seen his dog like this – she looked like a guardian from ancient legends his grandmother used to tell him about.
The dark being hesitated. „You’re no ordinary dog,“ it hissed. „You’re one of them… from the Silver Guard!“
Luna stood on her hind legs, and her light became so bright that Jacob had to squint. When he opened his eyes again, the dark being was gone, and the forest around them came alive once more with birdsong.
„Luna,“ Jacob whispered in amazement, „who are you really?“
The dog turned to her young master, and her blue eyes shone with the wisdom of centuries. But then her expression changed to that familiar doggy smile, and she licked Jacob’s face as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
On their way home, Jacob thought about what had occurred. He remembered his grandmother’s stories about the Silver Guard – ancient dogs who protected humans from dark forces. They were said to be sent by good spirits to watch over the innocent. He had never fully believed those stories… until now.
From that day on, Jacob and Luna avoided the deep forest, but their friendship grew stronger than ever. Jacob knew that his dog was not just a faithful companion but also a protector with ancient powers. Luna remained as playful and loving as before, though occasionally, when moonlight reflected in her blue eyes, Jacob would catch a glimpse of that ancient wisdom.
Years passed, and Jacob grew into a young man. Luna aged, her white fur slowly turning gray, but her devotion to Jacob never wavered. And though she wasn’t as fast as she used to be, her blue eyes never lost their brightness, and at night, when the village slept, sometimes people would see her fur gleaming with silver light.
Villagers often spoke about how lucky Jacob was to have such a wise and faithful dog. But no one knew that Luna was one of the last members of the Silver Guard. And perhaps that’s why their village was the only place in the wide region where nothing bad ever happened, and where children could safely run through the forest even after dark.
Jacob kept his secret to himself, but every evening, when he looked at his canine friend resting by the fireplace, he thanked fate for sending him not just a best friend, but a guardian angel with four paws and a blue soul.
And so ends the story of a boy and his dog, who was more than just a dog. But if you ever look out your window at night and see a white dog with glowing fur, perhaps you’ve met another member of the Silver Guard, still protecting those who need it most.
