Seriál: Tajomstvá starej školy Vek: Školáčik 6-9 Epizóda: 6/12
Ela a Tomáš stoja pri starom klavíri v zaprášenej hudobnej miestnosti so zlatým popoludňajším svetlom.

V chodbe bolo ticho.

Pomaly otvorili dvere. Cez vysoké okno padalo dnu teplé popoludňajšie svetlo, a preto miestnosť nepôsobila smutne. Skôr tajomne a pokojne.

Dievča si odtlačok opatrne obkreslilo do zápisníka. Bolo len nenápadné, no veľmi presné, akoby ho niekto vyryl šikovnou rukou.

Vyzeral, akoby patril niekomu, kto sem chodil pred mnohými rokmi.

Tomáš ho vzal opatrne do rúk. „Bolo to tu schované schválne,“ povedal.

Listovali ďalej, no ďalšie strany boli prázdnejšie.

Ela zdvihla hlavu.

Okraje mala jemne ošúchané a v jednom rohu bol malý výrez.

Ela položila prst na hranu. „Skúsime ju posunúť?“

„Jemne,“ prikývol Tomáš. „Najprv len trošku.“

Spolu zatlačili. Doska sa nehýbala. Potom ju skúsili potiahnuť. Ani to nepomohlo.

Chlapec opatrne stlačil kolík a Ela medzitým jemne posunula dosku do strany.

Vo vnútri ležal malý zložený papier a ešte jeden úzky ústrižok pergamenu.

Ela vytiahla papierik ako prvá. Bolo na ňom len niekoľko slov a šípka. Ústrižok ukazoval smer ku starému školskému archívu.

„Archív,“ prečítal Tomáš a zamyslene si pošúchal bradu.

Spolu urobili všetko pokojne a rýchlo, akoby to už trénovali.

„Niekto ide,“ zašepkal chlapec.

„Schovaj to,“ odpovedala kamarátka.

Nikto nič nepovedal o klube ani o mape. Nebolo treba.

„A niekedy treba najprv počúvať, až potom hovoriť.“

Secrets of the Old School, part 6: The Shadow in the Music Room

The Story Begins

Ella and Thomas stood in front of the door to the old music room and listened for a moment. The hallway was quiet. Only somewhere far away, a soft sound of a bench being moved and light steps on the wooden floor could be heard. In Ella’s hand was the little piece of paper they had found in locker number 17. On it was a simple music note and, below it, a small owl.

"So this should be it," she whispered and looked at Thomas.

"The music room," the boy said. He wore his grey backpack on his back, and his face was serious and focused. "If this clue is right, we are close."

Slowly, they opened the door. Inside, they were met by a faint dusty smell, old wood, and the kind of silence that belongs only to rooms that have not been used for a long time. On one side stood an old piano with slightly yellow keys. Near the windows were music stands, and dusty sheets of music were spread on them. Warm afternoon light came in through the tall window, so the room did not feel sad. It felt mysterious and calm.

Ella сразу took out her small notebook. "I’ll write down what I see," she said.

"That’s a good idea," Thomas answered. "I’ll look at the piano and the door."

First, both of them looked around slowly, without hurrying. On one of the stands, there was an old sheet of music with a bent corner. Near the piano, Ella noticed something strange on the floor. Close to the pedals, there was a small mark in the wood, as if something had pressed there or moved a board long ago.

"Do you see that?" she asked, bending down a little.

Thomas nodded. "Yes. It doesn’t look like a scratch. More like a mark from something that moved."

The girl carefully copied the mark into her notebook. Meanwhile, the boy checked the music stand. On the back of the stand, near the owl sign, there was a small carved mark. It was not big. It was only quiet and careful, but very exact, as if someone had made it with a skilled hand.

"Ella, come here," he whispered.

When she leaned closer and saw the sign, her eyes lit up. "An owl!" she said softly. "So this is no accident."

Under the stand was an old notebook. Its cover had worn corners, and on the front was a simple owl symbol. It looked as if it had belonged to someone who had come here many years ago.

Thomas picked it up carefully. "It was hidden here on purpose," he said.

They opened it on the first page. The writing was a little shaky, but still easy to read. The very first sentence said: "Who belongs to the Owls listens first, then speaks."

Ella read the sentence quietly. "Listen before you speak."

For a moment, the room became even quieter. The words were simple, but they felt important.

"That must be the club rule," Thomas thought aloud. "Maybe the old students reminded each other to listen first and only then talk."

Ella sat down on a low stool near the piano. "Or maybe it means they had to pay attention to what was happening around them."

"Exactly," her friend agreed. "Maybe that is how they found all their secret clues."

They kept turning the pages, but the next ones were more empty. Only now and then there was a tiny note, a few arrows, and some faded signs. On the third page, however, Thomas suddenly stopped.

When Things Start to Change

"Wait," he said. "Look at this."

At the bottom of the page there was a simple drawing of the room plan. By the piano was a small dot and next to it an arrow pointing to the floor. Under that were the words: "Do not go straight to the door. Look under the board first."

Ella lifted her head. "That’s why there’s a mark here."

"Maybe," Thomas answered. "It’s not a sign of danger. It’s only a clue about something that moved."

The children moved closer to the piano. Indeed, one board in the floor was a little different from the others. At first, only a very careful eye would notice it. Its edges were slightly worn, and in one corner there was a small cut-out.

Ella put her finger on the edge. "Shall we try to move it?"

"Gently," Thomas nodded. "Just a little first."

Together they pushed. The board did not move. Then they tried to pull it. That did not help either. The boy frowned, and for a moment it looked like they would have to think even more. But then Ella remembered the sentence from the notebook.

"Wait. Maybe we are not supposed to just push it. Look, there is a small hole here."

Thomas knelt closer and saw that in the cut-out there was a thin wooden stick, like a small locking pin. It would only go in when something fit into the right place.

"So this must be the mechanism," he whispered.

Carefully, the boy pressed the pin, and Ella gently slid the board to the side. Suddenly, they heard a quiet click. It was not scary. It sounded more like an old box opening after a long time.

"We did it!" Ella smiled.

Under the board, a small hiding place appeared. It was not big. It was only a few centimeters deep, but enough for someone to hide something there. Inside were a small folded paper and another narrow strip of parchment.

Ella took out the paper first. There were only a few words and an arrow on it. The strip pointed toward the old school archive.

"Archive," Thomas read and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "So that sends us farther."

"And what is the school archive?" the girl asked.

"A place where old records, letters, and maybe maps of the school can be kept," he explained. "If there is something about the Owl club, we’ll find it there."

Ella wrote everything down carefully. She also wrote that the board in the floor was not dangerous, only part of the hiding place. Meanwhile, Thomas checked the music stand again. On the back of it, near the owl symbol, he found a small line that looked like part of a map.

"There’s more here," he said.

Soon, both of them leaned closer to the paper. There were a few faint lines on it. The sunlight coming through the window showed them more clearly for a moment. It looked like a map of a small part of the school. Not the whole building. Only one section.

"Look," Ella said, pointing with her finger. "Here is the library."

"And here next to it is something written, but it’s smudged," Thomas added.

Where the letters were the most blurred, only the edge could be seen. It might have been an entrance, a passage, or a small hallway. No one was sure.

Just then, footsteps sounded in the hallway.

The children looked at each other. Not in panic, but in surprise. Ella quickly folded the map, the old notebook, and the paper with the strip. Thomas slid the board back into place. Together they did everything calmly and fast, as if they had practiced it before.

An Important Moment

"Someone is coming," the boy whispered.

"Hide it," his friend answered.

In the doorway appeared Caretaker Karl. He wore his green work jacket and held a bunch of keys in his hand. His eyes looked tired, but kind. When he saw the children by the piano, he only smiled softly.

"You are curious ones," he said quietly. "The music room has not had so much attention for a long time."

Ella and Thomas exchanged a look. Neither of them said anything about the club or the map. There was no need. It was enough that they kept everything in their memory.

"We were just looking at the old music sheets," Ella said naturally.

Karl nodded. "That is fine. Old things sometimes tell more than they seem to."

Then he looked at the piano, as if he knew exactly that they had just found something there. "And sometimes you have to listen first, then speak."

Thomas smiled a little. That was the very sentence from the notebook.

"You really have many old secrets here," he said.

The caretaker only smiled and did not answer at once. Then he said slowly, "Some secrets like to show themselves only to those who do not search too loudly."

Ella remembered that sentence. It sounded calm, but also like another small clue.

After Karl left, the children stayed silent for a while longer. The room no longer felt tense. The door opened and closed normally. Nothing got stuck. No mystery was threatening them. Another part of the big school puzzle had simply come together.

"So the Owl club was real," Ella said softly.

"And their rule is clear," Thomas added. "Listen before you say what you think."

The girl nodded. "That will help us again."

They left the music room with the map safely hidden in the notebook and with the feeling that they were one step closer to the truth. In the hallway, the light was warmer than before, and the old school looked friendly again. At the same time, both of them knew that another place was waiting to be explored.

There was said to be something new near the library. Maybe a narrow passage. Maybe a secret entrance. Or maybe just another old clue left long ago for the right curious children.

So Ella held her notebook more tightly, and Thomas adjusted his backpack on his shoulders. They did not say much. Some discoveries need silence first. Then, step by step, they went on down the hallway, ready for the next secret of the old school.
