V školskej jedálni to voňalo rožkami, jablkami a malinovým čajom.

„Ja to opravím hneď!“ vyhŕkla Ema.

Cink, cink, cink. Raz narážala do pohára, raz do servítok a napokon sa zatočila okolo vlastnej osi.

„To nebolo v pláne,“ zamrmlal Tobi a rýchlo natiahol ruky, aby zachytil pohár, keby spadol.

Nepobehovala. Ani necinkala bez rozmyslu.

Lyžička sa poslušne zasunula pod podtác. Jemne ho podvihla, akoby presne vedela, čo má robiť. Tobi pridržiaval okraj stola, Leo sledoval pohár a Sára držala všetkých pokojne pohromade. Ema sa dívala so zatajeným dychom.

„Spolu.“

„Treba vedieť, prečo to zachraňujeme,“ dodal Tobi.

Ema si odložila ceruzku a pocítila niečo nové. Nebola to len radosť z úspechu.

V tajnom zošite im svietilo prvé pravidlo a v hlave im už klíčil ďalší spoločný plán. Zároveň si všetci štyria uvedomili, že ich nové pravidlá možno nebudú len na písanie.

Dôležitý okamih

Možno budú aj na ochranu.

Guardians of Little Wonders, part 3: The Drawing That Saved Lunch

The Story Begins

In the school cafeteria, the air smelled like rolls, apples, and raspberry tea. The children were just sitting down at the table when a glass of juice slowly slid between the plates. It rocked from side to side like a little boat on waves.

“Careful,” Leo whispered, leaning forward. He always had quick eyes, and now he caught even the smallest shake on the edge of the glass.

Sara sat up straight at once. “Everyone stay calm. Nothing is happening.” Her voice was quiet, but sure, and the classmates took a deep breath after hearing it.

Emma sat on the edge of the bench with a picture menu spread in front of her. On the paper were apples, cakes, and a little sandwich, but she kept one hand over each corner to protect the page. “Just let it not spill on my drawings,” she whispered, her throat tight.

Toby adjusted his glasses and looked at the table. “If it falls, I’ll catch it.”

Just then, the glass tipped a little more. Next to it lay a saucer, or rather a tray, which seemed to be stuck under a napkin. From far away, it looked as if someone had moved it on purpose.

At the next table, Miss Mila was standing nearby. She smiled, but her eyes stopped on the children for a moment, as if she knew that something small, but important, was just beginning.

“I’ll fix it right away!” Emma burst out. Fear flashed in her eyes. She did not want to wait even one second. She pulled out a pencil and drew a tiny spoon on the clean corner of a paper napkin.

Before the pencil had even touched the table again, the spoon began to shake. Then a little real spoon came loose from the shine on the paper. It sparkled like a drop of light and looked very proud for a moment.

But instead of holding the glass or moving the tray, it only bounced across the tablecloth. Clink, clink, clink. Once it bumped into the glass, then into the napkins, and finally it spun around and around.

“That was not the plan,” Toby muttered, quickly stretching out his hands to catch the glass if it fell.

“Spoon,” Emma whispered in confusion. “I drew you!”

The little object stopped for a moment. It was as if it was really waiting for what it should do. Then it moved again, but still it only hopped around without a goal.

Sara thought for a second. “Maybe it does not know what exactly it should save.”

Leo rubbed his chin. “Or maybe it does not know why it is here.”

Emma bit her lip. In her mind, she had imagined the spoon would push the glass right away and everything would be done. But her thought had been too fast, a little messy, and most of all, scared.

Meanwhile, the glass was still wobbling. With every move, the juice came closer to the edge.

Suddenly, Miss Mila placed another napkin on the table and said calmly, “Sometimes it helps to first find out what is really important.”

Leo nodded and focused on the table for three breaths. His strange gift woke up only for a short time. He looked through the tabletop, through the napkin, and through the space under it. He saw that the tray was stuck against the edge of a small plastic bowl, and that was why the glass was tilting.

“Aha!” he called out. “It is not the glass. It is only standing badly. The tray is pushed to the side.”

Toby leaned forward a little more. “Then we need to protect the table and the food, not only Emma’s drawing.”

When Things Start to Change

Sara smiled a little. “Exactly. First, we must know what we are saving.”

Emma looked at her menu. Then she looked at the glass. Then she looked at her friends, who were thinking about everyone at the table, not only about her paper. At that moment, she noticed that her heart was beating more calmly.

But in the reflection on the window, a tall shadow suddenly moved. It was thin, wearing a long soft purple coat, and even if he did not smile loudly, his smile could be felt from far away.

“Oh, it is only a little mess,” said Mr Shadowmorph casually. “Maybe it is enough to pretend the glass is really a decoration.”

For a moment, the children froze. His words sounded like a game, but at the same time they brought confusion.

Sara did not let herself be shaken. “No,” she said simply. “We need to help in a way that is good for everyone.”

Mr Shadowmorph gently faded away in the reflection, but his presence still hung in the air like a small shadow among the plates.

Then Emma took a deep breath. She was no longer in a hurry. She held the pencil more firmly and bent over the napkin. First, she told herself in her mind exactly what needed saving.

“Spoon, you will support the tray,” she whispered. “And carefully move the glass to a safe place, so nothing spills.”

She drew a new spoon. It was small, but this time it had a clear purpose. On the paper, a thin line flashed, then a tiny sparkle lit up, and the spoon became real.

This time it did not jump. It did not run around. It did not clink without thinking.

The spoon slipped neatly under the tray. It gently lifted it, as if it knew exactly what to do. Toby held the edge of the table, Leo watched the glass, and Sara kept everyone calm and together. Emma watched with her breath held tight.

After a while, the glass stood straight. Then it slowly moved to a safe place in the middle of the table. Not a drop of juice came out.

“It worked!” Emma whispered, and a smile shone on her face.

“It worked for us,” Sara corrected softly. “Together.”

The cafeteria filled again with normal school sounds. Some children started laughing, spoons clinked against bowls, and Miss Mila only nodded with quiet joy, as if she had expected exactly this.

Later, the Guardians sat a little farther away, in a quieter corner by the window. There was soft light under the table, and their secret notebook леж… no, lay on the bench between them. It looked ordinary, but to them it meant more than a toy or a secret.

Sara opened the first empty page. “I think we learned something important today.”

Leo leaned back against the bench. “That it is not enough just to save something.”

“You have to know why you are saving it,” Toby added.

Emma traced the edge of the notebook with her finger. “And that my drawing works better when I think about others too.”

Together, they bent over the page, and Sara said the first rule aloud. Leo wrote it in neat, big letters, so no one would read it wrong.

A wonder must be used to help others, not only to fix your own mistake.

When they wrote the last word, a soft warm light seemed to run across the paper for a moment. It was not loud or bright. It was the kind of light that makes a person feel happy inside.

Emma smiled and said quietly, “So my gift is not only for saving my own pictures.”

An Important Moment

“No,” Sara answered. “It is for helping.”

At that same time, far from their table, a familiar shadow flashed near the cafeteria doors. Mr Shadowmorph leaned against the wall, as if he had only passed by by chance. His gaze fell on the notebook close to Emma and Sara.

“Rules,” he muttered so softly that only the hallway tiles seemed to hear it. “That is interesting.”

Then his figure disappeared into the corner of the corridor, but the children only noticed that it had grown cold for a moment. Sara quickly closed the notebook and pulled it closer.

“We will have to guard it,” Toby said seriously.

Leo nodded. “And maybe hide it better too.”

Emma pressed her thumb against the cover. “But most of all, we will write more rules in it.”

Miss Mila walked past their table with a smile, as if she had heard nothing. Only for one second, her glasses flashed, and the children felt that maybe she did know a little more than she said.

When snack time ended, the air in the cafeteria felt light again. No juice had spilled, no drawing had been ruined, and no child had to be sad. Emma put away her pencil and felt something new. It was not only the joy of success. It was the feeling that when she stopped for a moment and thought carefully, her wonder became more exact and stronger.

And so the Guardians of Little Wonders left the cafeteria together. A little tired, but happy. In their secret notebook, the first rule was shining, and in their minds a new shared plan was already growing. At the same time, all four of them understood that their new rules would not be only for writing.

Maybe they would also be for protecting.
